Java User Group

Meeting of the Hamburg Java User Group at Goodgame Studios

Despite the fantastic weather, this week saw around 50 eager developers come together for a meeting of the Hamburg Java User Group (JUGHH) in our café.

Events organized by the JUGHH are aimed at anyone interested in improving their skills and exchanging experience, experts and novices alike. It was fitting that the group should meet in the café at Goodgame Studios, as we rely primarily on Java for our game servers.

The evening began with a few words of greeting from Jens, our Head of Server Development. There followed the main event of the evening: Markus Jura, trainer at Typesafe and Java evangelist, gave a talk on building event-driven, scalable, resilient and high performance applications using Java 8. The talk was as entertaining as it was informative. Particularly the design allowed the subject matter to come across clearly – even for the uninitiated among the audience. However, the panel of experts were more interested in the formulas for the examples and demos that were taking place on screen. The talk was also not lacking in lively debate and interaction – many questions were asked and answered with aplomb.

Networking afterwards was accompanied by tasty snacks and cold drinks provided by Goodgame Studios. The conversation was animated and the atmosphere was lively. We would be honored to host the JUGHH again in the future!
