First get-together for new international employees

80 Goodgamers from 40 different nations – what a great mixture for our first GGS get-together for new employees from abroad. These colleagues met up after work at Cabana Bar by the Hamburg fish market. This location offered a beautiful view of the river Elbe and the harbor, giving everyone an authentic first impression of the city’s special charm.

The event was organized by our onboarding team, who are responsible for helping new international Goodgamers get settled in Hamburg and in our company. “We want to encourage casual dialogue outside of the office and also offer new employees the chance to make new friends and acquaintances,” explained Lisa from our onboarding team with regard to the goal of the event. “We really care about helping our new employees to integrate, so we do everything we can to make everyone feel welcome both at work and in their free time.”

Our colleagues enjoyed a free welcome drink with the fitting name “GG’s”, a blend of gin with cranberry and orange juice. The evening at the bar was also designed to give all guests the opportunity to network and share information so they could benefit from each other’s experiences. The conversations focused primarily on initial experiences at work, leisure tips for Hamburg, and what makes life in Germany so special.

Large posters were also hung up in the bar for employees to write their name, department, and home country on. This made it easy to see if perhaps there was a fellow countryman in the group. With talented employees from roughly 60 different countries, the main working language at Goodgame Studios is now English, which helps to manage such a big mixing pot of languages. Of course it can also be nice to chat with someone in your native language and share your experiences from the first few weeks in your new home.

This kick-off event went on until late in the evening, and we’re pleased that the GGS get-together could make it even easier for our new employees to start their new lives at Goodgame Studios in the most beautiful city in Germany. We hope that for some it was the beginning of new friendships as well!
